Who are we & WHat we do.
Founded by Tara Nanda, Sahaara is a student-led charitable program supporting elementary-school-aged children from farming families in rural India. Sahaara serves a small community of children whose families work on and around Sood Farms. Through the Sahaara House and community-based programs, Sahaara provides nutritious meals, school and hygiene supplies, sports equipment, and school tuition assistance.
Sahaara grew from a desire to expand educational opportunities into a broader effort to support children through nutrition, school supplies, recreation, tuition assistance, and community. Sahaara works alongside local families and community members to provide children with practical support they may not otherwise have access to.

About the Founder
Tara Nanda has been involved in philanthropic efforts since childhood. From an early age, she developed a strong passion for animal rescue and spent many hours supporting local shelters and organizations, including Paw Works.
During the Woolsey Fire, Tara collected donations to help displaced and endangered pets. She also continued her philanthropic work through the National Charity League, contributing time to a variety of local community efforts. Tara has also supported Giving Children Hope, a nonprofit that assists children and families in need, through consistent monthly donations over the past two years.
These early experiences helped shape Tara’s commitment to hands-on service and ultimately inspired her to create Sahaara.
